Transpersonal Coaching
Transpersonal Coaching
Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response.
In our response lies our growth and our freedom.
What is Transpersonal Coaching?
Transpersonal coaching is a specialised form of coaching that embraces a holistic and integrative approach to foster client growth and potential transformation. The coaching space serves as a container where clients can make sense of their own processes and feel more resourceful. This method involves a person-centred process that helps clients discover what gives their lives meaning and purpose, supporting them in expressing this meaning purposefully in their work, personal lives, and relationships.
During sessions, the coach holds a compassionate, liminal space for the client’s emergence, honouring and witnessing whatever arises. This space is held using the mindfulness technique of Open Awareness (OA), which helps cultivate embodied presence (De Vitto 2019). Unlike psychotherapy, transpersonal coaching focuses on the present moment. Through dialogue and compassionate inquiry, the coach helps clients shift from an ego-centred (narrow) focus on problems to an open and resourceful perspective (Dangeli 2022).
The coaching process invites clients to embark on a transformative journey if they are open to it. The coach can inspire clients to cultivate practices that can lead to peak experiences, bringing valuable changes and insights into the client’s life (Dangeli 2022). According to Libet (1983-1993), issues such as procrastination or lack of motivation are unconscious reactions that precede conscious awareness by half a second. Unlike conventional life coaching, which focuses on conscious processing, transpersonal coaching addresses unconscious processes by helping clients identify triggers and patterns influencing their thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. Ultimately, it is up to the client to recognise these patterns and their reactions to situations in order to shift and transform their lives.

Coaching is not therapy.
Transpersonal coaching sessions are not therapy but can be therapeutic. In my coaching sessions we will focus on what is present for you in the here and now and we won't delve in the past, I won't be asking specific questions about your past but you are welcome to talk about it if you wish to and my role as the coach and space holder will be to listen to you. Although I am trauma informed in my practice we wont be focusing on traumatic experiences you might have had in the past. We will focus on what is present for you and what your attention is mostly fixated upon and through supportive enquiry, guided meditations, visualisations, breathing exercises and so on I will aim to support and guide you back to a more resourceful state of mind.
FAQs
What is transpersonal psychology?
Transpersonal psychology is a branch of psychology dedicated to the study of human consciousness, and how spiritual, peak, psychedelic and transcendental experiences can help humans towards growth, self-enquiry and self-development.
How does it work?
In my sessions I use the transpersonal coaching framework I was taught during my 1 year training at the Alef Trust. This is based on Open Awareness and mindfulness techniques such as: guided meditations, body scans and visualisations. Depending on your needs and circumstances I might use specific models to structure our sessions; for example I will ask if you have a specific issue you want to talk about and what outcome you would like to achieve during the session. I will then listen to you and after you have expressed yourself I will offer to guide you through a meditation, or body scan, which oftentimes is focused on bringing your awareness to your body, breath, bodily sensations. Open Awareness techniques can be very useful to help us shift the focus of our attention from a narrow view to an open view and to bring us back to the present moment and a more resourceful state of mind. I will support you throughout the session, by bearing witness to your process and asking compassionate and reflective questions.
Who is this for?
Anyone in need of psychological support or for anyone in need of help to shift their awareness and attention from a certain issue with the intention to reach a more resourceful and open state of mind. My approach to coaching is to provide an emotionally safe space for my clients to feel seen and heard. I enjoy providing support through building rapport and trust, listening actively, providing reflective questions, witnessing your process, motivating and supporting you to establish or nurture your spiritual practices and experiences.
Why is this good for you?
Sometimes all we need is a listening ear and a cheering on or reassurance. Sometimes we just need to feel heard and seen. Sometimes we need someone to motivate us and help us reflect. Sometimes feeling held in an emotionally safe space with a compassionate other can have very healing effects. My sessions are tailor-made for each individual walking through my door. In the initial sessions we spend some time to build rapport and to start exploring together what matters to you most, what kind of spiritual or meditation practices you are curious about and open to explore and establish in your life. If you bring a specific issue to discuss I will structure the session in a way to help you reach a more resourceful mindset.
What are the benefits?
It depends on how many sessions you are willing to commit to. Some of the experienced benefits can be: Cultivating a sense of calm, openness and presence. Shifting focus from tunnel to open awareness. Cultivating resourcefulness and curiosity. Receiving guided meditation can have good effects on our general wellbeing: lowering anxiety, shifting our attitude, helping us to imagine different scenarios and outcomes and beginning to recognise and reflect on life patterns. As well as finding meaning and purpose in your life. If you find discomfort in stillness we can bring movement and sound in our sessions together, I will not push you to do anything that feels uncomfortable and I will always ask permission to make suggestions or offerings to you.
How many sessions do I need?
If you choose to work with me I will offer you to come on a journey of self discovery, depending on what you want to achieve we can work on many different aspects. Commitment is necessary but there is no rush and no pressure. I am happy to see you once, weekly for 60-90 minute sessions, every other week or monthly. Whatever works for you.

Testimonials
"I would describe the sessions with Giusy as a client-centred space where they would be well supported as they explore transpersonal issues and matters of other kinds. The last session we had was very valuable in highlighting the possibility of creating space between myself and the issue I discussed. The flexibility of the approach was very meaningful in practice; I enjoyed being encouraged to take time for myself and the surreptitious links between my perceptions during the practice and my previous experiences. After the guided meditation I felt refreshed and reassured by imagining what could be achieved with regular practice. As a thank you I would like to express my appreciation for your time and effort. Your receptive attitude has made it almost effortless to share matters which would normally be difficult to express."

"I started working with Giusy while going through a particularly challenging phase in my life. I was grieving the loss of a very important job, changing careers and encountering difficulties in my long term relationship. And when you’re dealing with a lot, emotionally and financially, it’s easy to start losing yourself in anxiety and worrying. Giusy opened a space for me to talk, to feel and to express myself without judgment or expectations, offering help and support when needed. She guided me through breathing and visualisation exercises, allowing me to take back my space, to let go of anxiety and tunnel vision, often leading me to work out the answers to the issues I was dealing with. But even when there were no answers, I was always left with a calm and warm feeling. I always left our meetings feeling complete, and strong enough to deal with whatever came my way.
Giusy is the most kind and compassionate person I know. It’s incredible how she seems to always know the right thing to say, when you most need it. She’s an amazing coach and I honestly wouldn’t have made it so far without her guidance."
